About Casa de Colón Las Palmas
The Casa de Colón is one of the most emblematic cultural institutions in the Canary Islands. Inaugurated in 1951, it occupies an architectural complex that includes the former Governor’s House, linked to Christopher Columbus’s stop on the island in 1492.
Its neo-Canarian architecture combines original 16th-century elements with later additions, organized around traditional Canarian-style courtyards.
This public center houses:
A museum with thirteen permanent exhibition halls
A specialized library focused on the history of the Americas and the Canary Islands
A documentation and research center
Its collection takes visitors on a journey from Columbus’s voyages to the historical relations between the Canary Islands and the Americas, as well as aspects of local history and art, with pieces ranging from the pre-Columbian period to the 20th century.

Voyages, Art & Architecture
One of the most striking spaces in Casa de Colón is the hall dedicated to Christopher Columbus’s voyages. Through models, maps, nautical charts, and navigation instruments, visitors can immerse themselves in the Age of Discovery and experience what life was like on board the caravels.
The building itself is also worth admiring: its two interior courtyards, featuring semi-circular arches, carved columns, and a Gothic well in the center, reflect the charm of traditional Canarian architecture.
As for its art collection, Casa de Colón exhibits works ranging from the 16th to the 20th century. Highlights include:
Flemish panels reflecting trade with Flanders
Colonial and costumbrista paintings
Pieces from the Cusco school
Works by Canarian artists
